Book Progress

Here is what I have been currently working on. My two double page spreads are close to being perfected. I have been messing with the logos on the 3rd page (with the legs) and I am trying to perfect the color in the background. I like this color, but we will see what it looks like when I actually print it.
Below are my table of contents and one idea I started for the cover. We are focusing on the fact that all the designers (in our specific book) use a pop of color, and we arranged the artists by date of birth. We called the book "swatches: a selection of color and design through time." I am really enjoying this project!

Book Spreads

We have started our book prototypes. I tried not to make them too overwhelming because Saul Bass didn't have a lot of distraction in his art work. He tended to have a bold color accented by a black image with text. I tried to keep it clean, but not necessarily symmetrical.

Quote of the Day

"Design is thinking made visual" -Saul Bass

Saul Bass

We are now doing a project about designers. We are researching the works, influences, and styles of a designer in our field. I picked Saul Bass. He is well known for his motion title sequences and movie posters. Later in life he also dabbled in logo design. He is very talented and has influenced many artists.

Box Final Product

Here is my masterpiece! It is a wooden box made for holding office supplies such as pens and sticky notes. It has optional dividers for more storage options. I really like the final product.

Process

Who knew using power tools could be so much fun?! I began by sanding my block of wood. I then cut it into two smaller pieces and essentially made two separate boxes. The top box will be the lid to the bottom. It is turning out nicely, and the wood color is beautiful.
